MENTON ARABIAN HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS
by Beth Ellen Hunziker
As I write this, I am sitting in the lovely city of Brussels, Belgium, waiting for my flight to Nice and then on to Menton, France where the Mediterranean and Arab Countries Arabian Horse Championships will be held on June 13 &14, 2015.
This is my first time attending the Menton show and to say I am excited is a vast understatement. I have followed the show over the years, getting up at 4:00 am or so to watch the live stream from my home computer. I was able to snuggle up with Alfred, my beloved Whippet, and enjoy my coffee while I watched the gorgeous horses presented by the top European handlers in a setting that was impossible to imagine. Now, I will be enjoying the experience first hand and I can hardly wait for the show to begin.
I checked the official website, and you can too, to learn more about the show and all the new attractions it is offering this year. For example, the website proudly announces that for the first time in a show and for the first time in Menton, there will be an award for the Best Dam, which is sponsored by Albidayer Stud. Also adding to the excitement and prestige of the show will be the special prize awarded to the Best Arab Countries Horse, offered by BB Italian Taste. More new features this year include prize money in the Yearling qualifying classes in the total amount of 50,000 €, generously offered by Al Zobair Stud. The Alsayed Stud is supporting the show as well by offering prize money for the Best French Horse in the amount of 2 500 €, and prize money for the Best European Horse also in the amount of 2 500 €. Perhaps the most coveted prize of all is a breeding to the World Champion Stallion, Kahil Al Shaqab, (Marwan Al Shaqab x OFW Mishaahl) generously offered by Al Shaqab Member Qatar Foundation.
Once again the show is managed by Christianne & Jean-Pierre Chazel. They certainly are experts in show management as they also produce the World Championships at the Salon du Cheval in Paris each year.
I will be posting news and photos from the show and promise to offer some fun and entertaining information. So look for me ringside or catch the news posts. I believe it will be a show to remember and I hope the first of many more to come.
