SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2015

Welcome to the 2015 Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show News and Reviews for Saturday, February 21st. The sponsor for today’s news is Arabian Horse Futures, Tracy White, and Ken and Joann White.

Scottsdale. It is the undisputed Mecca of the Arabian Horse in America, and perhaps the world. Whatever your interest in the Arabian horse, you can immerse yourself in it here at the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show. Tracy White and Ken and Joann White are small breeders who are making large contributions to the breed in the form of top quality Arabian horses. The nucleus of their breeding program consists of two mares who are not only full sisters, they are twins. They were born the same year and originated from the same breeding. However, they were carried by recipient mares. The Whites purchased the two sisters when they were approximately six months old and they’ve been together ever since. They are practically inseparable.

The sisters produced their first foal crop in 2011. Each of them produced one filly and one colt. Aria Elita’s foals were both sired by National Champion Stallion DA Valentino. The Colt, Elite AF was named 2014 Canadian National Reserve Champion Futurity Colt and the filly, LR Valita, was 2014 Canadian National Top Ten Futurity Filly. Aria Jamina’s foals were both sired by International Champion , Dakharo. The filly, Makhara AF, was 2014 Canadian National Champion Futurity Filly and 2014 Canadian National Champion Mare AOTH. These accomplishments positioned the Whites in the Top Five Breeders of National Futurity Winners of 2014.

The secret to the success for the Whites is pairing these incredible sisters with the top sires in the world; DA Valentino, Dakharo, Jullyen El Jamaal, ZT Marwetyn, Trussardi, Stival and Van Gogh AM, Khail Al Shaqab and others. In 2013 and 2014, Aria Elita produced fillies by National Champion Trussardi – both are superior. Keith and Kristi Hainey purchased the 2014 filly before she was even born. When she was born, the Haineys were elated with her exquisite beauty and named her MCA Tru Elation. Fast forward to the 2015 Scottsdale International Arabian Breeders Classic for Yearling Fillies and witness the filly winning her first blue ribbon – no doubt the first of many to come.

Not to be outdone, Aria Jamina produced a spectacular colt by Stival in 2014. Long time Arabian owner and breeder Wally Alvarez had been on a hiatus, but upon seeing this incredible colt, he was swept up and drawn back to his love of the Arabian horse. Wally and his wife Kelly travelled to Scottsdale this year to watch their colt – LeVante – take second in the Scottsdale Classic for Yearling Colts. He will return to the Championships on Sunday and if he shows as well as he did in his class, he could still win it – he is that good.

Currently, Aria Jamina is in foal to Scottsdale Unanimous International Gold Champion Stallion Van Gogh AM. Aria Elita was bred to World Champion Stallion Kahil Al Shaqab. The Whites have consigned the unborn foal to the IntArah Dream Embryo Auction, which will be held during the Arabian Breeders World Cup in Las Vegas in April. An additional mare owned by Ken and Joann Whites is the DA Valentino daughter, RS Vallerina. She is also in foal to VanGogh AM and her unborn foal is also consigned to the IntArah Dream Embryo Auction. These unborn foals represent incredible opportunities for breeders and owners to have access to these fantastic mares, and stallions, and to acquire Arabian horses of the highest quality. The choice of stallion for your mare is one of the most important a breeder can make. The AHAA is committed to supporting breeders and their Scottsdale Signature Futurity is the largest and richest in the country. The organization raises funds for the futurity through its Stallions Service Auction. The list of SSS nominated stallions includes the most successful sires in the world and offers breeders the absolute best opportunity to select from the best and then reap the rewards in the signature classes, which are all dedicated to amateur handlers. The live auction was held on Wednesday night and total amount raised was $332,800.00. The high selling lot was QR Marc, which sold for $15,900. According to Janice McCrea Wight, there were several new stallions whose services were offered in the auction and any new bidders participated this year. Even if you were not able to attend the live Stallion Service Auction, you still have the chance to bid on breedings of nominated sires. Please visit the Signature Stallion tent located on the northwest corner of Wendell arena to place your bid. You will be supporting the AHAA and the Arabian horse breed.

Among the most entertaining events at the Scottsdale show was the Celebrity Slide, hosted by the Arabian Reining Association on Thursday night. There was a Calcutta along with the competition, which had everyone cheering on their favorite riders. Jody Strand won the event and John Rannenberg was reserve. Jessica Clinton, Dalton Budd and J.T. Keller also rode and gave great performances. Also on Thursday evening was the Stachowski Farms sales presentation, the first of it’s kind to be held in the Equidome was very well attend with a great crowd gathering to see the outstanding performance horses being offered.

Perhaps the most highly attended class on Friday was the Liberty class. It was standing room only for the qualifier won by the National Western Pleasure Champion, Zephyr, presented by Andy Sellman and Jody Strand. The flashy black stallion was a huge hit with the crowd and the judges too. No doubt the championship final will be packed with spectators. I think it is a toss up as to which class is the most popular with the public; the Liberty class or Native Costume. Both classes really showcase the beauty, excitement and versatility of the Arabian horse and are so much fun to watch. Come early to get your seat and enjoy the show! We will see you ringside!
